Abstract:
In view of the current oil crisis, attempts are being made the world over, to tap alternate energy resources at a reasonable price. Referring to alcohol, atomic and solar energy as the energy sources for tomorrow, use of heavy oil from oil shale and tar sands has been discussed at some length in this paper, giving their short process details, limitations and economics.Technology for the conversion of oil shale and tar sand into crude, has also been mentioned along with future prospects of this industry.
