Abstract:
In this paper the authors address the various problems using the powerful telecommunication industry principle of today that is accessing any information, anywhere, at any time via telephone. The authors developed voice-based solutions for accessing web contents using VoiceXML as VUIs (Voice User Interfaces) are rapidly evolving to include web based content. The primary motivation is to provide means for creating new interactive voice applications; addressing needs for mobility and addressing issues on accessibility. There is no special hardware required on user side and yet one can take advantage of the convenience of using a simple technological device "The Telephone". The developed application has the ability to communicate via telephone, therefore it provides improved accessibility for the blind and any user that has access to a telephone. More importantly, it provides accessibility for users in developing countries that have low bandwidth connections, or outdated software, to access the Internet. The developed application features Online News Reader, Online Book Store and E-Directory Services.
