Abstract:
Avena fatua Linn. is a very common weed of wheat and other crops. Shoot and root aqueous extracts, shoot mulch, soil collected beneath it and litter reduced the germination, radicle and plumule growth, moisture and chlorophyll contents of Triticum vulgare, Pernnisetum americanum, Zea mays and Brassica campestris in the laboratory and field experiments owing to the presence of phytotoxins. Paper thin layer and Gas chromatography revealed the presence of chlorogrnic, ellagic caffeic, ferulic, p-coumaric p-OH-Benzoic vanillic and syringic acids.
