Abstract:
Investigations were carried out to determine the feasibility of using pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) as a feed ingredient in broiler ration. The chicks were raised on four experimental rations. Ration A, B and C contained 5, 10 and 15 per cent pigeon pea, while ration D was a commercial broiler ration. These rations were fed for seven weeks. The differences among the rations were, however, found to be non-significant regarding weight gain, feed consumption, feed efficiency and dressing percentage. The findings revealed that pigeon pea could be used at upto 15 per cent level in broiler ration without any adverse effect on weight gain, feed consumption, feed efficiency and dressing percentage.
