Abstract:
Polycrystalling metals and alloys used in every-day life are composed of grains of various shapes and sizes during the processes of formation of these grains become oriented along certain preferential crystallographic directions. This behaviour of materials depends on the class of crystal symmetry to which they belong. In this paper various methods to study texture in materials are discussed and their merits and scope are reviewed critically. Preparation of normal and inverse pole figures is described. Also described is the orientation distribution function (ODF) which is relatively a new approach for the study of texture related problems in materials. As there are several approaches available in the literatures, a comparison is presented of the ODF's calculated by these different methods.
