Abstract:
Volvariella (Pluteaceae, Agaricales) is represented by 155 species from all around the globe, from which only seven species are reported from Pakistan. Out of them only two species viz; V. taylorii (Berk. & Broome) Singerand V. variicystidiosaHaqnawaz, Zaman, Niazi & Khalidare identified on molecular basis. The genusis characterized by its stipe having a saccate volva at its base without annulus, free light pink lamellae, greyish black pileus with a broad umbo at maturity and fibrillose surface. Anatomically, basidiospores are ellipsoid to broadly ellipsoid with a prominent apiculus, a variety of pleurocystidia and cheilocystidia and a cutis trichoderm with non-gelatinous pileipellis hyphae. During this investigation, three species of Volvariella were found from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. They were identified by morphological and molecular phylogenetic analysis using nrDNA of ITS region. Among these, one species was found as a new taxon species and two represent new records for Pakistan.
