Abstract:
The Strangles usually affect young horses in which the morbidity rate usually remains as low as 10%. However, a permanent feature of this disease in inflammation of lymphnodes of the throat region, which continues to increase in severity and burst after several days. On the other hand Equine influenza a viral disease, occurs usually in 2 years old or younger horses, probably horses of 3 years of age and older are immune. A mixed infection of virus and bacteria might have been the etiological factors involved in the disease entity but not necessarily those causing typical Strangles and Equine influenza. The efficacy of different antibiotics and sulfa drugs in various animals indicates the presence of different microorganisms in different animals. GHK
