Abstract:
A method has been developed for the determination of trace amounts of Cobalt (II) by its catalytic effect on the oxidation of bramopyrogallol red (BPR) by hydrogen peroxide in presence of borate buffer at pH 9.5. The absorbance of the reaction mixture was measured at 555 mm and a fixed time procedure was adopted for the determination of Cobalt. The method has a detection limit of 8.8 x 10-5 p.p.m. of Co(II) at 30°C with a reaction time of 15 minutes.
