Abstract:
In this paper we introduce the significance of data estimation in sonar systems and particularly in passive sonar systems. In the sonar data processing, accurate frequency and bearing estimation processes are required for the smooth target tracking. Frequency and bearing estimation processes are initiated on the basis of rough information generated by Man Machine Interface (MMI) after selection of a contact by the operator on display screen of sonar. Different frequency estimation methods are discussed in this paper followed by detailed evaluation of their statistical data estimation techniques. The estimator which had the best performance was embedded in the real time sonar system and later tested in an integrated environment.
