Abstract:
Nitrogen is considered as the most important element in increasing root yield and sugar content of sugarbeet. The increasing tendency of late application of nitrogen, necessitated the initiation of the experiment. Spring application of nitrogen was started on 28th February and continued at fifteen days interval upto 30th April. The experiment was conducted at Sugar Crops Research Institute, Mardan during 1981-82. 1982-83 and 1983-84. Root yield was noted to have been least affected by the time of application of nitrogen in spring. A significant reduction in sugar content was indicative of the 'fact that spring application of nitrogen should in no case be delayed beyond 15th March.
