Abstract:
The allelic relationship of resistant genes to the green leafhopper (Nephotettix virescens Distant) was studied in four rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars. These were crossed with cultivar 'ASD8' which carries GIhS gene for resistance. The F1, F2 and F were artificially infested in the greenhouse with second and third instar nymphs of the green leafhopper. Seedling reaction was recorded one week after infestation. Resistant genes of rice cultivars 'ARC 614', 'IR 28', 'IR 30' and 'IR 42' segregated independent of GIhS, but each of the cultivars 'ARC 614', 'IR 30', and 'IR 42', have G1h2, and G1h3 and Gth4 genes for resistance, respectively. Resistant gene of 'IR 28' also segregates independent of Glhl, Glh 2 and Glh 3. Therefore the gene of 'IR 28' must be a different gene and it could be named as a new gene for resistance to green leafhopper.
