Abstract:
This research work was carried out to assess the effect of different organic acids supplementation on whole body antioxidant enzyme activities in L. rohita fingerlings. The experimental diets contained one control without any organic acid and four organic acids, i.e. Malic acid (MA), Citric acid (CA), Formic acid (FA), Lactic acid (LA) and were named as D1 (control), D2, D3, D4 and D5, respectively. At the onset of feeding trial fifteen fish were randomlystocked in each tank with an initial body weight of 3.53±0.006 g. Each experimental diet was fed in duplicate for a period of 60 days. The results showed that the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) were reduced by supplementation of organic acids as compared to control diet. Maximum reduction was observed with CA followed by FA, LA, MA and control diet, respectively. Conclusively, dietary organic acid supplementation reduced the SOD, CAT and GPX levels in whole body of L. rohita fingerlings which showed reduced level of lipid peroxidation.
