Abstract:
A new trematode Neodiptherostomum karachiensis n. gen. n. sp. is described from the intestine of the fish seudosciaena diacantus of Karachi coast. Trematodes were fixed in F.A.A., stained with Bilgees`s acetocarmalulum and mounted permanently in Canada balsam. Diagrams were made with the help of a camera lucida and measurements are given in millimeters. The new genus is characterized by having elongate, delicate, small body, very long esophagus, ceca terminating anterior to acetabulum, acetabulum very large situated near to posterior end of body and consisting of lip-like thickenings on anterior and posterior margins. Ovary, testes, vitellaria and uterus postacetabular, cirrus pouch long, verticle, anterior to acetalulum, genital pore marginal, postbifurcal, opening in a sucker-like genital atrium, metraterm well developed, strongly muscular, eggs large, few 0.021-0.029 by 0.0170-0.019. Genus name indicates its relation to Diptherostomum Odhner, 1911 and species to locality of the host.
