Abstract:
The jute semilooper, Anomis sabulifera Guen. collected from jute fields near Dacca was found to have been infected with a nuclear polyhedrosis virus. Gross pathological changes through this disease are similar to those described by others for this type of disease, the notable exception being the yellowish colour of the infected larvae. Field observations by the authors have revealed that polyhedrosis causes high mortality of jute semilooper. There was a natural epizootic at Savar and Tarabo in mid-July 1965. The disease also occurred in Mymensingh, Faridpur, and Rajshahi in 1966. Experimental infections of the healthy semilooper per se were initiated under laboratory conditions using 850,000 polyhedra/ml. virus suspension when a mortality rate of about 81% was obtained in 6 days at 29C + 2C.
