Abstract:
Study was conducted to determine if capsulation of fertilizer with polyethylene film of 1 ml thickness and placement of the capsules in soils would control the release of fertilizer constituents more in line with the needs of the plant and thereby re-duce the nutrients losses by leaching, fixation and gas. Effect of various moisture levels on the rate of release of fertilizer from capsules placed in pots of moist soil was found to be independent of 100% field moisture capacity, leaching by addition of 6 inches of water to the soil at field moisture capacity and of complete waterlogging. The rate of release was directly related to the number of pinholes per capsule. The experiment led to the conclusion that the rate of release of nutrients in soil could be controlled by the application of fertilizer in capsules under various conditions of moisture levels.
