Abstract:
An attempt has been made to project foodgrain storage requirements based on realistic assumption over a period of two decades, taking into account the assumptions of foodgrain availability. The econometric analysis revealed that on linear regression model the availability by 2000 A.D. would be 23.42- 31.37 million tonnes while on the compound growth rate it would be 34.33-42.28 million tonnes. The public sector foodgrain storage capacity would be 3.76- 6.35, 4.630-6.617 and 6.959-8.945 million tonnes according to Model-I, Model-II, (Method-I and Method- II), respectively. Therefore, construction of low cost stores both at private and Government level should be encouraged to tackle the storage problem effectively.
