Abstract:
The disorder motility may be due to deficient peristalsis, excessive or disordered peristalsis, defects in lower and upper sphincter.Oesophageal motility studies are a useful adjunct to radiology and endoscopy in the diagnosis of the cause of dysphagia, particularly when a motor defect is suspected. They are of value in a patient with pain and dysphagia, particularly when findings on radiology and endoscopy are indefinite. They enable dia-gnosis of achalasia, diffuse oesophageal spasm and scleroderma to be confirmed with relative ease.
