Abstract:
Fifty Chironomus sp. and C. fatigans larvae and pupae were exposed to synthetic thyroxine solutions of various concentrations. At a concentration of 0.17 mg/ml thyroxine was toxic to larvae of Chironomus sp., although the pupae of this species successfully moulted into adults. The larvae of Culex fatigans were able to moult into pupae, but none of them could moult into an adult, and finally all pupae died.
