Abstract:
The Major carps, Labeo rohita, Catla catla and Cirrhina mrigala have the highest status in pond culture of freshwater fish in South Asia. These three species were found to be infested with fish lice. The fish lice, Argulus indicus and A. japonicus have been recorded for the first time from Pakistan. Infestation by A. indicus was light, while A. japonicus was found in large numbers on juveniles of major carps. L. rohita and C. mrigala appear to be more susceptible to infection by the lice.
