Abstract:
Legumes have an exceptional position in the farming system of the agricultural world. Chickpeas (Cicer arietinum L.), more customarily known as gram, are mainly grown during the rabi season. It is a member of the legume family. Chickpea contains different nutritional values with 21 % protein, 4.5% fat and 61.5% carbohydrate. Chickpea is a better source for Fe, Ca, vitamin C and B. Cicer arietinum is a valuable legume crop in Pakistan's rainfed areas. The production of Cicer arietinum is low in Pakistan as compared with the other domains which are producing chickpea. Chickpea is mainly cultivated in rainfed or sandy areas of Pakistan. Sometimes due to the long draught period reduced the yield. The experiment was conducted to check the effects of foliar application of nitrogen and boron on two different chickpea cultivars. The field experiment was conducted at the agronomic research area of UAF Sub-Campus Burewala-Vehari from 2021 to 2022 for this aim. The experiment was employ RCBD with factorial plot arrangement. There were two factors included in this experiment, Factor A, chickpea varieties (Noor-2019 and Bittle-2016) and Factor B foliar application of Urea and Boron. The data was analyzed through the suitable statistics tools to check the efficacy of the of urea and boron foliar spray on the growth and yield of different chickpea cultivars. Results were showed that the foliar application of Urea and Boron significantly improved plant growth and development. The data of parameters such as height of plant (cm), number of pods per plant, number of grain per pod, hundred grain weight, biological yield and grain yield were significantly improved with foliar application of nitrogen and boron. The results of the present study revealed that the yield can be increased by using the recommended dose of fertilizers, urea and boron foliar spray at flowering initiation. Different genotypes of chickpea crop performs well with the foliar application of urea and boron at flowering stage and had significant results.
