Abstract:
The effect of feeding and withdrawal of 17-methyltestosterone on the free amino acids of muscle were studied in carp. Free amino acids increased with the size of the fish and methyltestosterone feeding decreased the amino acids in groups which exhibited significant increase in growth characterized by increase in weight and length. There are indications that this decrease was due to active utilization of amino acids in proteins. Two months after the withdrawal of the steroid, the amino acids were still lower in the treated groups.
