Abstract:
Large industrial consumers expect utilities to supply clean power whereas in practice supply at generator terminals may be clean but at consumer end it is no more sinusoidal. It is possible for a utility to supply reliable and dirty power, whereas it is not possible for utility to supply, unreliable but clean power. Customers' electronic equipments are sensitive to voltage dips and the disturbances riding over the sinusoidal clean power. One solution out is to install power ride-through equipment to live with the dirty. Real clean power becomes deteriorated to an extent whereupon the consumer electronic equipments become sensitive and start disrupting continuity of critical processes. This work describes methods for utilities and facilities how to either eliminate or live with voltage dips.
