Abstract:
Data Integrity in the database is perhaps the most important issue and variety of techniques have been proposed to achieve this. Integrity constraints ensure data accuracy and prevent invalid insertion of data into the database. CHECK constraints enable you to enforce every specific integrity rules by specifying a CHECK condition. The complexity of the Check constraint, in terms of number of checks imposed, affects the performance of the update and inserts operation. The appropriate implementation and configuration of the Check constraint at the client-interface side and at the database server side can result in better performance of the database system. In this paper, the authors identified the site where a check constraint shall be placed to maintain the integrity with the least possible cost.
