Abstract:
The study was conducted to evaluate the indigenous Soybean Meal (SBM) as vegetable protein source in broiler ration. The Soybean meal contained 41.6% protein, 4.75% Fiber and 11% fat. The meal was incorporated at 0,5,10,15,20.5,30.25 and 40% of the experimental rations substituting vegetable and animal protein sources on protein equivalent basis. The effects of feeding different levels of SBM on the feed consumption, growth rate, feed efficiency, dressing percentage and weight of internal organs of the chicks were studied. The results indicated the best growth and feed utilization of chicks with ration containing 10% SBM and the poorest with ration containing 40% SBM. The best chick growth performance with the ration containing 10% SBM and 12.75% Sesame Meal might be due to complementary effect of the two vegetable protein sources, while the poor chick performance on account of feeding higher levels of SBM might be due to higher content of trypsin inhibitor in the indigenous meal. There was a significant (P
