Abstract:
There have been many important contributions to the ichthyology of Pakistan during the last 15 years. The author has given a brief history of the freshwater ichthyology of Pakistan (excluding exotic species). If the exotic species are also included, there are at least 160 species of freshwater fishes found in Pakistan. This estimate does not include the species yet to be described.
