Abstract:
Latex agglutination and Ouchterlong's methods were used for the detection of antibodies to some parasitic antigens and presented here. One hundred and forty nine, (149) human LFT (Liver function test) patients and 12 stray street dog sera were subjected to Latex Toxoplasma antigen. High seropositive rates were obtained in 20 human and two dog sera. The positive rates were 34. 22% and 2% for human and dog sera. Ouchterlong's method was used for the detection of antibodies against Toxocara canis, Fasciola hepatica, Dirofilaria immitis, Trichinella spiralis, Angiostrongylus cantonensis, Paragonimus westermani and Diphyllobothrium erinacei antigens. Of 26 human patients sera tested against T. spiralis, D. immitis and F. hepatica, the positive rates of the sera were: T. spiralis (23%); D. immitis (7. 6%) and F. hepatica (3. 8%). One out of 68 sera examined reacted against T. canis antigen. Of the sera collected from two patients with a history of Dracunculiasis coming from endemic guinea worm disease area of Tharparkar (Sindh), one showed identity for Paragonimus westermani and the other for D. erinacei and T. spiralis antigens. Fourteen dog sera tested, reacted negative against T. canis and D. immitis antigens.
