Abstract:
Sugarcane is an important cash crop of the L.W.F.P. and pays about Rs. 2 crore to the cane growers annually. The crop is subject to the attack of sugarcane leaf hopper Pyrilla perpasilla Wlk., which is the most serious pest of sugarcane.10-12% of the crop is being destroyed annually by this pest. The toxicity and residual, effectiveness of Dimecron, Carbicron, Thiodam, Diazinon and Metasystox against sugarcane leaf hopper. Pyrilla perpusilla Wlk. was studied on sugarcane in the field. Each insecticide was applied in three doses. Analysis of the results showed that Metasystox being the most toxic insecticide exhibited maximum mortality followed by Carbicron, Dimecron and Thiodan. Diazinon was least effective. In high dose each insecticide gave maximum mortality followed by the optimum and then the lower dose. Diazinon lost its toxicity completely after 9 days, Carbicron and Thiodan after 12 days and Dimecron and Metasystox at least in high dose after 15 days.
