Abstract:
This study presents a pilot survey to determine the effect of fabric substrates on the ABO agglutination in dried blood, that is to see the amount of antigen absorption and retention by different fabric materials. Six different fabrics, each made up of different fibres and filaments from seven different fibers were used as substrates for the study. Visual observation of absorption and the actual amount of absorption were studied. Cotton, wool, polyester. corduroy and denim gave almost identical aglutination results, Nylon, spandex gave no or poor agglutination results. Hence they are not good substrates for antigen retention.
