Abstract:
The effect of irrigation with saline-sodic tube-well water and tube-well water amended with gypsum stone and choline chloride on the growth of wheat (3rd crop in succession) and the properties of a normal loam soil was studied. Results indicate that amendment with gypsum stone or choline chloride was helpful in maintaining lower ESP and PH values of the soil compared with the unamended tube-well water. However, it was obvious that unless proper care was taken in providing the necessary leaching requirements for different waters even low SAR and RSC water resulted in appreciable increase in salinity of soil being irrigated with such waters.
