Abstract:
Determine the success and failure rate of dentine adhesives as direct pulp capping agent. Material and patients: Sixty human molar teeth those revealed pulp exposure accidentally during removal of carious dentine have been capped with dentine adhesives. Finally, all cavities restored with resin composite. The success and failure rate has been evaluated up to 24 weeks of period. The criteria for success and failure were clinical by asking question regarding pain and by applying relevant objective tests to evaluate the pulp vitality. The patient with history of pain, swelling, or abnormally responding to vitality tests, or showing periapical pathosis on radiographs were considered failure. Results: A significant higher success rate (88.3%) has been obtained compared to 11.7% failure rate. Conclusion: The clinical evaluation might not exactly reflect the histological status of pulp, therefore, further histo-pathological studies are suggested on the subject.
