Abstract:
Generative AI presents a dual landscape of unprecedented opportunities and inherent risks. On the one hand, it empowers innovation and creativity by generating novel content, designs, and solutions. The potential for increased efficiency through task automation and personalized experiences further propels its appeal. In healthcare, generative AI holds promise for revolutionary advancements in drug discovery and personalized medicine. However, this transformative technology is not without its challenges. Ethical concerns arise as biases in training data can perpetuate inequalities, while the creation of realistic deepfakes poses risks to trust and authenticity. Job displacement, security threats, and the absence of comprehensive regulations further compound the risks associated with generative AI. Mitigation strategies, including ethical AI practices, robust security measures, and continuous oversight, emerge as crucial in navigating this complex landscape. Public awareness and education play pivotal roles in fostering responsible AI use. Striking a balance between seizing opportunities and addressing risks requires collaborative efforts among industry, policymakers, and researchers. This talk will focus on the dynamic interplay of opportunities and risks in generative AI, emphasizing the imperative for a thoughtful and collective approach to harness its potential while safeguarding against potential pitfalls.
