Virtual displacements for nonholonomic systems and Hamilton's Equations.

Abstract:
A definition of virtual displacements is given for mechanical systems moving with nonholonomic constraints which are nonlinear in the accelerations. For such system the problem of consistency of the principles of d'Alembert and Ganges is solved and Hamilton's cononical equations of motion are also derived.
