Abstract:

Locked up internal stress resulting from the method of manufacture and/or heat treatment may affect the service life and dimensional stability of Structures. Mechanisms of formation of these stresses are described. The paper reviews and discusses principles of general application in order to establish the relative importance of the main factors influencing residual stresses.
