Abstract:
An entomological survey of Guppis and Yasin valleys of Gilgit Agency was carried out for the first time. Anopheles superpictus larvae were were collected up to altitudes of 11,000 ft. Anophelese maculates was present up to altitudes of 9,500 ft, and fully engorged females were collected from cattle sheds. Three presumably new Culicine species, Aedes x, Culei w (toritaenior-hynchus complex group) and Culex z were collected and described. The various mosquitoes collected and found breeding represent new findings for such altitudes and pose additional problems with respect to malarial eradication programmes.
