Abstract:
Pakistan must use more and more water paints to meet the shortage of vegetable oil paints. P.C.S.I.R. has developed 'Fixempro' a gypsum based dry distemper. Light, heat, moisture and oxygen affect all paints, though emulsion paints have a lesser tendency to lose decorative value. Next to emulsion paints, gypsum based distempers have the longest life. Emulsion paints are not desirable in Pakistan because their raw materials have to be imported. Cement paint substitute and gypsum based distemper produced from the country's sources can meet the bulk of Pakistan's requirements.
