Abstract:
The Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Centre (PASTIC) is a distinguished institution committed to the collection and dissemination of Scientific and Technological Information (STI) for the socioeconomic development of the country. Main objective of Abstracting and Indexing Service (A&I) is not only to keep record of the research published in local scientific journals but also assist scholarly community at their doorstep to uplift quality of research (improving accessibility, citation and reputation) by adopting modern ICT tools and techniques. A&I service of PASTIC was initiated in 1960 by bringing out a secondary Journal entitled ""Pakistan Science Abstracts"" (PSA), in print form as a secondary information resource to give support to R & D activities of the country. Owing to the need of the digital era these abstracts were digitized in the form of an online searchable database in 2011 and was upgraded later by incorporation of Supervised Automated extraction of metadata from full text pdf articles in 2017. In the Current system, metadata from the downloaded pdf articles of the target Journal are extracted in xml using desktop application. PASTIC`s aims to employ state-of-the-art AI technology by incorporating robust artificial intelligence techniques, to upgrade its current system to eliminate these inefficiencies, thereby increasing the rate of data extraction, reducing proofreading, and verification time, while simultaneously enhancing the accuracy of metadata extraction. By harnessing the power of AI, PASTIC aspires to enhance its service scope, making a significant stride towards a comprehensive national inventory of scientific research information.
