Abstract:
This experiment was conducted to study the effect of different dates of sowing ( 25th October; 4th, 14th, 24th Nov. and 4th, 14th, 24th December) on the yield and quality response of five elite mutants (WM-89-1, WM-56-1-2, WM-6-17, WM-18-2, WM-120-3 alongwith Pak-81 as check cultivar) evolved at Nuclear Institute for Food and Agriculture (NIFA), Peshawar, Pakistan. Late sowing resulted in reduced seed weight and low yield in all the cultivars. Mean 100-grain weight (g) and yield (Kg/ha) values for 24th December and 25th October sowing were 4.03 and 4.17; and 1378.72 and 4512.34, respectively. Grain protein content increased with delayed sowing but overall protein yield showed a reduction with delayed sowing. Mean protein content were 10.99 and 14.83% in 25th Oct. and 24th Dec. sowings, respectively, however, the mean total protein yield on these sowing dated was 494.59 and 198.70 Kg/ha, respectively. Positive correlation was observed between 100-grain weight and yield of different cultivars (r = 0.88). The correlations were negative between yield and protein content (r = 0.95), and 100-grain weight and protein content (r = 0.84). Regression equations were computed and regression lines were drawn for these relationships.
