Abstract:
A study of family Chalcididae collected from various locations of North Western part of Pakistan was initiated. At various periods and seasons of the year, several ecological zones were surveyed. Grass and low vegetation were the primary sources of collection from 1994 to 2020. Two hundred Chalcididae specimens were examined for their morphological characters. Among them, eight species of the genus Brachymeria are reported. These include Brachymeria alternipes (Walker), B. apicicornis (Cameron), B. jambolana (Gahan), B. marginiscutis (Cameron), B. minuta (Linnaeus), B. podagrica (Fabricius), B. habui Huseyin Ozdikmen and B. medicina Joseph, Narendran & Joy. Specimens were observed and images were created using a Nikon SMZ-745T trinocular microscope and a DS-Fi2 camera from easily visible and conspicuous characters. Using Helicon Focus software, layers of photos were blended to generate a single sharp image. Adobe Photoshop was used to fine-tune the images. Key to the species of the genus Brachymeria, as well as host range, distribution, and type material examined is also provided. Physical comparison of inspected specimen with type specimen accessible at Bohart Museum of Entomology, University of California, Davis, USA, verified the species. All the reported species are new records to the region.
