Abstract:
Vesicular-Arbuscular Mycorrhizal (VAM) infection in root segments of host plants, i.e. Cenchrus pennisetiformis Hochst. & Steud. ex Steud. (Family Gramineae) and Cyperus rotundus L. (Family Cyperaceae) is reported. Mycorrhizal infection was 100% in the C. pennisetiformis and 40% in the C.rotundus. The former exhibited 90% arbuscular and 40% vesicular infection; the latter lacked arbuscules but the vesicular infection was 10% Variation in shape and size of vesicles indicated multiple VAM infection in the C. pennisetiformis. Whereas, one type of vesicles indicated the possibility of single VAM infection in the C.rotundus. Endospore-like structures were stellate in the C. rotundus and, rounded and oblong in the C. Pennisetiformis.
