Abstract:
Ecological conditions of these ponds were different from the ponds which are present in other parts of Rawalpindi. Angiospermic plants were not present whereas algal flora, bottom organisms, planktons and nektons were present. Presence of bloom was probably due to organic pollution such as sewerage and used domestic water which comes into these ponds. PH of pond water is usually 7.5 but in these ponds it varied from 8 to 12.5. Absence of fish was due to high pH but frogs were present in large number. Among the invertebrate fauna Tubifex sp. and gastropods were abundant. Bottom fauna was average or rich by number and weight/sq. m.
