Abstract:
Newcastle disease (ND) is fatal viral infection of chickens of all ages. Despite vaccination of chicks against ND, disease problems continue to plague the poultry industry for several reasons. Successful immunization of young chicks is compromised by immaturity of the immune system, interference of vaccine replication and its efficacy by residual maternal immunity. In this study immune response was compared in Fayoumi, Dokki and Rhode Island Red (RIR). The chickens were vaccinated with Mukteswar NDV. at 5 weeks of age to avoid the effect of maternal immunity. Antibody levels against NDV were measured 17 days after vaccination and 15 days after challenge by Haemagglutina-tion Inhibition (HI) test. The chicks were challenged with Roakin strain of NDV isolated from field. The t- comparisons showed non significant difference (P >05) in the log2 HI titres of all three breeds at the time of challenge (17 days post vaccination). The HI titres developed 15 days after challenge were however significantly different (P
