Abstract:
The mass spectra of seven new N,N-linked bi(pyridones) and four of their mono and di-cations have been examined at 70 eV. As a general trend, the base ions of the N,N-linked bi(pyridones) (1a-d) and (2a-c) being the parent ions, the mono- (3a, b) and the di-cations (4a, b) showed their base ions by loss of the mono- or the di-cation from the molecular ions. On the other hand, the linked bi(pyridones) were characterized by the expulsion of two carbon mono-oxide molecules. The corresponding mono-cations were distinguished by hydrogen radical elimination prior to the elimination of carbon mono-oxide, the analogous di-cation underwent fragmentation via elimination of a couple of hydrogen radicals before elimination of two carbon monoxide molecules.
