Abstract:
Genotypic variability, heritability, and genetic advance expressed as percentage of mean for yield and its components were studied in 10 advance lines of wheat including nine from Mexico. The genotypic and phenotypic variances were high for plant height (36.0 and 39.8) and number of grains per spike (68.5 and 80.9). Heritability (broad sense) was high for plant height (0.90), number of spikelets per spike (0.86), number of grains per spike (0.84) and it was the lowest for spike length (0.23) and 100-grain weight (0.28). High hertability associated with high genetic advance expressed as percentage of mean for plant height, number of spikelets per spike and number of grains per spike, indicated additive gene effects for these characters.
