Abstract:
With 70% of the world`s oil coming from fields that are more than 30 years old, industry faces an utmost challenge of producing enough to compensate for the decline rate of these older reservoirs and at the same time produce enough to satisfy world`s increasing demand for oil & gas. According to one estimate, industry will have to find and produce equivalent of 50% of today`s oil and gas production to meet the growing oil and gas demand and overcome the decline rates. Transformation of traditional oil and gas fields into information-centered Intelligent Field (i-Fields) will advance both objectives. OGDCL envisions providing necessary components of iTransformation with the i-Field solution. i-Fields are intelligent systems that make field operations innovative, making decision-making process at office environment smarter and breaking barriers between office and field, making them behave as one under the same system. Foundations for this i-Field have been laid at OGDCL through successful implementation of Production Data Management System. OGDCL`s i-Field implementation plan, aims at accelerating transformation of data acquisition, transmission and decisions. This knowledge management technique will c change the way f fields are operated, managed and will provide important benefits including real-time linkage between the acquisition site and the office to facilitate access to production data, improved asset team decisions on well tests and completions, decreased production downtime through direct monitoring of operational parameters and faster feedback to the field, decreased operating expenses through improved operational efficiency, optimal recovery, customized integration into existing infrastructure and workflows, integrated reservoir characterization, production enhancement and optimization, reservoir monitoring and control and delivery of all decision tools in a collaborative environment.
