Abstract:
Atrophic rhinitis is a disease of unknown aetiology. Chronic suppuration of nose and paranasal sinuses has been considered to be an important causative factor. Nasal discharge in 50 cases of atrophic rihintis has been studied for aerobic and anaerobic organisms. Standard procedures were used for culture of anaerobic organisms in oxygen free atmosphere. Anaerobes were identified in 92 per cent cases, peptostreptococcus products, peptostreptococcus intermedius and peptostreptococcus peravulus were present in 72%, 60% and 36% respectively.
