Abstract:
A large number of slum areas in Karachi with inadequate housing and congested life give unique dimensions of the socioeconomic problems for their residents. Recent and past migrations terminated in large agglomerations of slum life in Karachi. In these slum areas the provision of basic amenities is a major issue which needs to be tackled on priority basis. Among the basic necessities water is the most important for human survival. However, the quality of water in these slums is very poor. In this paper an attempt has been made to assess the impact of water quality on the residents of Lyari, one of old localities of Karachi.
