Abstract:
Gelatin-Carboxymethyl cellulose based hydrogel was synthesized by using epichlorohydrin as a crosslinker. The synthesized hydrogel was characterized by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) for functional group determination, Scanning electron microscope (SEM) for surface morphology, determination of point of zero charge and swelling ratio. The prepared hydrogel was used for the adsorptive removal of methylene blue an from aqueous solutions. Different parameters affecting the removal of dye, such as pH, initial dye concentration, adsorbent dose, volume, contact time and temperature were investigated. The optimum conditions for 82% removal of Methylene blue dye efficiency were pH=7, initial dye concentration =4ppm, hydrogel dose=0.4g, contact time=24hours, volume of solution=10ml at 250C
