Abstract:
Acute abdomen is a common condition in general survey but it is difficult to know its cause. If the diseased tissue is examined histologically it is difficult to make a firm diagnosis. Diagnosis is made at the postmortem examination. Polyarteritis nudosa is the one, of these uncommon conditions which is an acute inflammation of appendix, gall bladder, pancreas, small intenstine, testis, ovaries, fallopian tubes and acute kidney pain; the lesions of polyarteri tisnodose involve arteries of small and medium calibre specially at bifurcation and branchings. Renal investment is in two forms, renal polyarteritis and aglomerulitis. In gastro intestinal tract it starts with pain. Impaired arterial supply to the bowel can produce mucosal ulceration, perforation or infarction with melaena or bloody diarrhoea. Polyarteritis nudosa is progressive with destruction of vital organs. Liver investment can range from hepatomegaly with or without jaundice to the signs of theextensive hepatic necrosis. In central nervous system, headache, convulsions, papillitis, retinal haemorrhages and exudates occur with or without localizing signs. Polyarteritis of the coronary arteries and their branches is frequent like renal arteries. Mucosal ulceration in the bladder can occasionally precipitate gross haematuria with dysuria.
