Abstract:
The medicinal plants have been utilized since the dawn of human era around theglobe to diagnose, treat and control various simple to dreadful ailments. It ismatter of fact that a huge number of contagious diseases have been treated usingmedicinal plants throughout the history of human beings. There are variousstrategies (allopathy, radiotherapies, chemotherapies etc.) that help us to treatdiseases but these methods encompass several adverse reactions to humanbodies. Bioactive chemicals/secondary metabolites; glycosides, flavones,steroids, alkaloids and many other compounds with prominent therapeutic actionare abundantly found in medicinal plants. The current study explored the variousbioactivities of green and active substances present in the different crude extractsof selected plant; Rhamnus virgata. The polar and nonpolar R. virgata sourcedcrude extract was examined for anti-antimicrobial, antioxidant and dyedegradation properties. The present study revealed that the RV methanolicextracts were most potent among all prepared crude extracts. Furthermore, thecurrent study reported excellent antibacterial activity. The significant anti-radicalpotential was recorded including DPPH test [methanolic extract (85%) ethanol(80%), chloroform (66%) and n hexane (61%)] and TRP [methanolic extract(90%) followed by ethanol (80%), chloroform (65 %), and n hexane (60%) atthe maximum dose of 1000 µg/ml. Also, the RV sourced crude extract displayedsignificant dye degradation in RV mediated methanol extract (66%) followed byRV-ethanol extract (56%). In future, the research scientists can focus ondifferent unexplored medicinal plants sourced crude extracts, more in-vitro andin-vivo experiments exploiting different models, compounds isolation and drugdiscovery.
