Abstract:
The effect of various humidities, at: a constant temperature of 30°C (optimum for the development of this beetle), on the development and survival of Chilomenes sexmaculata Fabr was studied in the laboratory. All the beetles exposed to 100 percent R.H. at 30°C died within, a period of 4-8 days and the feeding capacity decreased gradually with the approach of death. On the Other hand, the beetles exposed to 5 percent R.H.at 30°C died within a period range of 6-9 days. The maximum average egg laying was observed at 60 percent R.H. and the minimum at 43 percent. The optimum relative humidity for the survival of the beetle was 52 per cent which gave the highest value. The overall, development period did not differ .significantly at various humidities, except at 73 per cent R.H. at which it was the longest.
